Accessible & assisted airport transfers, Glasgow

If you or someone you’re travelling with needs extra help, tell us when you book and we’ll arrange it. That includes meeting you directly from Glasgow Airport’s Special Assistance team, helping you to your door rather than stopping at the kerb, carrying a folding wheelchair or walker, and taking as long as you need to get in and out of the car.

This page sets out exactly what we can do and what we can’t, so you don’t have to phone and ask.

What’s standard on every booking

You don’t need to request these or pay extra for them. Just let us know at booking so the driver knows what to expect.

To the door, not the kerb
Your driver will walk you to the door of the property rather than stopping at the end of the path and leaving you to it.
Folding wheelchairs and walkers carried
Your driver loads and unloads mobility equipment. It doesn’t count against your luggage allowance.
Met inside arrivals
Your driver comes into the terminal with a name board rather than waiting in the car park. You don’t have to find them.
No rushing
Take the time you need getting in and out. Because your fare is fixed, a slower boarding costs you nothing — there’s no meter running.

Meeting you from Glasgow Airport Special Assistance

Glasgow Airport provides free assistance for passengers with reduced mobility, and their staff will bring you all the way through to the arrival points outside the terminal. We do this handover regularly, and it’s the part most people worry about — so here’s how it works.

1
Book assistance with your airline, at least 48 hours before you fly. This is arranged through the airline, not through us or the airport directly. If you’ve not given notice, speak to airline staff or use a Help Point on arrival.
2
Tell us when you book your transfer. Add it in the notes, or call us on 0141 473 4300. We’ll note it on the job so your driver knows before they set off.
3
Your driver waits inside arrivals with a name board and their name and mobile number are sent to you by text and email beforehand. If you’re being escorted by an assistance host, they can call the driver directly.
4
If assistance is running late, your driver waits. We track your flight, and you have 60 minutes’ free waiting from touchdown. Assistance on a busy arrivals bank can take a while, and we’d rather you weren’t watching the clock.

More detail on how the airport’s service works is in our guide to Special Assistance at Glasgow Airport.

Wheelchairs

This depends on whether you can transfer into a standard car seat, so we’ve split it plainly rather than making you guess.

If you can transfer into a car seat
No notice needed beyond your normal booking. Your driver will help you into the vehicle if you’d like, fold and stow your wheelchair, and have it ready for you at the other end. An estate or MPV gives easier access and more room for equipment — mention it at booking and we’ll allocate one.
If you need to stay in your wheelchair to travel

We don’t run a wheelchair-accessible vehicle in our own fleet. We can arrange one through a trusted partner operator with 24 hours’ notice. Call us on 0141 473 4300 — at shorter notice we’ll always try, we just can’t promise it.

We’ll confirm within a few hours, not the day before. If we can’t source a vehicle for your date you’ll know quickly, while you still have time to arrange something else.

The fare is the same as our standard fixed price for that journey. You won’t pay more because you need an accessible vehicle.

Being straightforward about not owning a WAV matters more to us than looking capable of everything. If we can’t source one for your date, we’ll tell you quickly so you can make other arrangements — rather than leaving it until the day before.

Assistance dogs

Always carried. No notice required, no extra charge, no questions. Guide dogs, hearing dogs and other assistance dogs travel with you as a matter of course. You’re welcome to mention it at booking if you’d like us to allocate a particular vehicle, but you do not have to, and a booking will never be refused on those grounds.

Extra help, but not a wheelchair

A lot of people need some assistance without using a wheelchair, and often don’t ask because there’s no obvious box to tick. There doesn’t need to be — just say what would help. In practice that usually means:

  • A steadying arm between the door and the car
  • A vehicle that’s easier to get into — an estate or MPV rather than a low saloon
  • Time, without anyone hovering
  • Help with bags right to the door
  • A driver who’s been told in advance, so you don’t have to explain on the pavement
  • A quiet journey, if conversation is tiring

This applies just as much to an older relative travelling alone, someone recovering from surgery, or a passenger who finds airports overwhelming. Tell us and we’ll brief the driver.

What we can’t do

  • We can’t lift you. Our drivers can offer a steadying arm and support, but they aren’t trained carers and can’t physically lift a passenger in or out of a vehicle.
  • We can’t carry a powered wheelchair or mobility scooter in a standard vehicle. These need an accessible vehicle — see above.
  • We can’t provide personal or medical care during the journey.
  • We can’t guarantee an accessible vehicle at short notice. Because we source them through partners, availability isn’t ours to promise.

Common questions

Do you have wheelchair-accessible taxis in Glasgow?

Not in our own fleet. We arrange wheelchair-accessible vehicles through partner operators with 24 hours’ notice, at the same fixed fare as a standard vehicle on that route, and confirm within a few hours so you’re not left waiting. If you can transfer into a car seat, no special arrangements are needed — we’ll carry your folding chair as standard.

Will you meet me from airport Special Assistance?

Yes, and we do it regularly. Your driver waits inside arrivals with a name board, and you’ll have their name and mobile number in advance so the assistance host can call them directly. Book assistance with your airline at least 48 hours ahead, and tell us when you book your transfer.

Do you accept assistance dogs?

Always, with no notice needed and no extra charge. A booking will never be refused because you travel with an assistance dog.

Does an accessible transfer cost more?

No. The fare is our standard fixed price for that route, whether you need an accessible vehicle, a folding wheelchair carried, or extra time and assistance. Nothing on this page carries a surcharge.

How do I tell you what I need?

Add it to the notes when you book online, or call 0141 473 4300 — we’re staffed 24 hours. You’ll never have to explain it twice; it goes on the booking and the driver sees it before they set off.

Not sure what you need, or whether we can help?
Call us on 0141 473 4300 and just describe the situation. We’d far rather talk it through than have you not book because you weren’t sure. We answer 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
