Someone can always see where you are

Every GLA Transfers journey can be tracked live: by you, and by one person you choose. Your daughter can watch your flight land and see you get home. A parent can follow their teenager from arrivals to the front door. A partner can check you’re twenty minutes away without texting to ask.

It works whether you book online or in the app, it costs nothing, and you turn it on in a couple of taps.

Nominate a safe contact

When you book, you can add one person as your safe contact. They receive a live tracking link for your journey. They can see your driver approaching, watch the route as you travel, and see when you arrive. They don’t need the app and they don’t need an account.

Travelling alone, late at night
A 1am arrival into Glasgow doesn’t have to mean texting someone your driver’s registration and hoping they’re awake. They can just watch.
A teenager flying home
First trip on their own, first time in a car with a stranger. Unaccompanied under-18s are always allocated a PVG driver. You see the driver’s name and photo before they land, then follow the whole journey.
An older relative getting home
You can’t be at the airport, but you can see them collected, see the journey, and see them arrive, without ringing three times to check.
Business travel, tight schedule
Share the link with a colleague or your PA so they can see exactly when you’ll reach the meeting, without messaging you mid-journey.

The link is live only for the journey it relates to. It stops working when you arrive.

What you see, and when

1
Before you travel. Your driver’s name, mobile number and vehicle details arrive by text and email, so you know who’s coming before they arrive, and you can check the car matches.
2
On the way to you. Track your driver approaching in real time, so you’re not standing outside wondering. Contact them directly by call, WhatsApp or text if you need to.
3
During the journey. You and your safe contact can both follow the route live from pick-up to destination.
4
Any hour, a real person. If something doesn’t feel right, call 0141 473 4300. We’re staffed 24 hours a day, every day of the year, not an in-app form and a wait.

Who’s driving you

Tracking only matters if you trust who’s at the wheel. Here’s exactly what stands behind that.

PVG drivers, on request and by default where it matters

The Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme is run by Disclosure Scotland and exists to keep unsuitable people away from children and protected adults. It goes considerably further than a standard background check.

A standard disclosure is a snapshot. It tells you about someone on the day it was issued, and nothing after. PVG membership is monitored continuously. Disclosure Scotland keeps checking a member’s suitability for as long as they remain in the scheme, and organisations have a duty to report concerns. If something changes, it surfaces straight away rather than waiting for a renewal date.

Many of our drivers are PVG scheme members, and you can request one when you book. There is no charge for it. Just ask in the booking notes or call us.

Where a passenger under 18 is travelling unaccompanied, we allocate a PVG driver as a matter of policy. You do not need to ask for it, and it is not optional at our end.

Alongside that, every driver on a GLA Transfers booking in Scotland holds a current private hire car driver’s licence issued under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982, and is DBS checked. Licence and insurance expiry dates are recorded in our driver system and monitored, so nobody drives on an expired licence. Every vehicle holds a current private hire car licence and is insured and inspected under the conditions of that licence.

We’re a licensed booking office, not an app that connects you to whoever happens to be nearby. Your driver is allocated in advance by someone who knows the job, usually the day before, rather than dispatched to the closest available car at the moment you need one.

We carry £5,000,000 of public liability insurance, and we’re GLA Transfers Ltd, registered in Scotland, company number SC684992, at 300 Bath Street, Glasgow.

Children and young people travelling alone

We carry young people travelling on their own regularly, usually flying back to a parent after a trip. Two rules apply, and neither costs you anything.

Anyone under 18 travelling alone gets a PVG driver
Automatically, at no extra charge, whether you ask for it or not. We use 18 because that is the age the Protecting Vulnerable Groups scheme itself uses. A child is a child until then, so that is where we draw the line rather than picking a number of our own.
Anyone under 16 also needs a named adult at the other end
Give us their name and mobile number when you book. The riskiest moment in a young person’s journey is not the drive, it is arriving somewhere with nobody there. We would rather know in advance who is meeting them than have a driver working it out on a doorstep.
For children under 12, please call us
We will almost always be able to help, but we would rather arrange it on the phone than through a booking form. Call 0141 473 4300 at any hour and we will set it up properly.
You have to tell us
None of this happens on its own. A booking form does not tell us how old a passenger is, so we can only allocate a PVG driver if you say someone is travelling alone. Add it to the booking notes, or call us. It takes a sentence and it is the difference between the policy applying and not.

If you ever need the record

Journey tracking data is retained for 90 days, and you can request the record of any journey during that period. Email office@glatransfers.co.uk with your booking reference.

Most people will never need it. It matters for the times somebody does: a disputed route, an insurance query, or a situation where someone needs to establish exactly where a journey went and when. We hold it as a matter of course rather than only when asked. How we handle your data is set out in our privacy policy.

Common questions

Can someone else track my journey?

Yes. Nominate one person as your safe contact when you book and they’ll receive a live tracking link. They can see your driver approaching, follow the route while you travel, and see you arrive. They don’t need the app or an account, and the link opens in any browser. It’s free, and it works whether you book online or in the app.

Is it safe to book a taxi from Glasgow Airport late at night as a solo traveller?

Pre-booking removes most of the uncertainty. You’ll have your driver’s name, number and vehicle details before you land, so you’re not getting into an unidentified car. Your driver meets you inside arrivals with a name board rather than in a car park. You can nominate a safe contact to watch the journey live. And there’s a 24-hour phone line with a person on the end of it, not a support form.

Can I see where my driver is?

Yes, in real time as they approach and throughout the journey. You can also contact them directly by call, WhatsApp or text.

My teenager is flying in alone. What can you do?

Book the transfer yourself and nominate yourself as the safe contact. Unaccompanied passengers under 18 are always allocated a PVG scheme driver, so you do not need to ask. You’ll get the driver’s name and vehicle details in advance to pass on, the driver will meet them inside arrivals with a name board, and you can follow the whole journey from your phone. Tell us at booking that they’re travelling alone so we can brief the driver.

Are your drivers background checked?

Every driver holds a current private hire car driver’s licence issued under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 and is DBS checked, and licence and insurance expiry dates are monitored in our driver system. Many of our drivers are also members of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme run by Disclosure Scotland, which monitors a member’s suitability continuously rather than issuing a one-off certificate. You can request a PVG driver free of charge when you book, and we allocate one automatically for any unaccompanied passenger under 18.

What age can a child travel alone with you?

Anyone under 18 travelling alone is allocated a PVG scheme driver automatically at no extra charge. For passengers under 16 we also need the name and mobile number of the adult meeting them at the other end, given at the time of booking. For children under 12 please call us on 0141 473 4300 rather than booking online, so we can arrange it properly. In every case you need to tell us the passenger is travelling alone, because a booking form does not tell us how old someone is.

Can I request a PVG checked driver?

Yes, free of charge. Ask in the booking notes or call 0141 473 4300 and we’ll allocate a PVG scheme driver. For any unaccompanied passenger under 18 we do this automatically, whether you ask or not.

How long do you keep journey tracking data?

90 days. You can request the record of any journey within that period by emailing office@glatransfers.co.uk with your booking reference.

How long does the tracking link stay active?

Only for the journey it relates to. It stops working once you arrive.
